Opposition Opinion - Port Vale
How do you feel opening the season at Gigg Lane against Bury?
It's a tough opener and certainly will do a lot to show if we are worthy of being promotion contenders.
How many supporters do you expect to bring to Gigg lane for this fixture?
There will be interest that's for sure. Optimisim is high at Vale Park so I would hope the number to be in the high hundreds.
What are port vales chances this season, what do you think your final position will be?
We are optimistic. Micky Adams has done a great job in just twelve months but it was too much to expect him to create a promotion winning side in his first season. But now he's had chance to get rid of the deadwood and to build the squad he wants. I think we're big, athletic and have pace on the flanks, strength at the back and goals upfront. We'll be hoping for a play-off place at the very least.
Where do you think Bury will finish the season?
It's difficult to say with no games being played but I would imagine Bury would at the very least be involved in the play-offs and possible a run at automatic promotion.
Have you any past memories of visiting Bury or any games involving them?
The most memorable was going back a few years and seeing us secure a 1-0 win back in 1983. The game was most notable for an unbelieveable save from Vale loan keeper Neville Southall. Wonder whatever happened to him when he left the Valiants?
League Player to watch this season?
Hopefully, Vale striker Marc Richards. If not, someone like Stevenage's Charlie Griffin may be a surprise package. He was certainly a handful in our cup games against them.
Team to watch this season?
Hopefully the Vale although I can see both promoted sides (Stevenage in particular are well organised and difficult to beat) making an impact too.
Who do you think will go up and who will go down?
I would think Southend are in danger of dropping right through unless they sort out their finances. I really admire the likes of Barnet, Cheltenham and Macclesfield but all have lost key players in the summer and could also struggle.
It's more difficult to promote the promotion sides. Bradford should be there or thereabouts as should (hopefully) both the Vale and Bury, while I think Chesterfield could be boosted by their new stadium plus the signing of former Vale loanee Craig Davies.
How do you see the game going and what is your score prediction?
Vale will still be difficult to score against, so I'd be happy with a 0-0 draw.
Great thanks to Rob Fielding of onevalefan.co.uk for answering the questions.
