'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Flitcroft Would Start The Season Now

Manager David Flitcroft has said he'd be perfectly happy to start the season now following on from our fourth signing of the summer in the shape of Chris Hussey.

The 25 year old defender turned down the chance of an automatic contract extension at former club Burton Albion so that he could rejoin Bury and hopefully continue where he left off during his loan spell with us last campaign, and everyone will be hoping he can strike up and maintain the partnership he set with fellow summer signing Danny Mayor on the left.

And with us already adding Nicky Adams and Ryan Lowe to the mix, Flitcroft told the Bury Times that he's delighted with the options and quality available within the squad, and he'd gladly begin what we hope will be a promotion winning season tomorrow without adding another body to our ranks.

'I'm looking at putting together a squad of 20 and to be honest, if I couldn't bring in any more players now, I would still be delighted with the group I have already got. I'm really happy with the quality of players we've been able to bring in and how we are building the squad.'

The gaffer goes on to say that he feels we have a good mix amongst the playing group now, and we have 'really big characters' that will help see us through the tough moments we will have, but we will always be looking to improve and add further quality as an when it becomes available, because he definitely wants good cover and depth to the squad to try and handle every eventuality.

Ideally for him, it would be the addition of three or four more players that he'd like to make in order to ensure we are 'really competitive' across the board, as we obviously lack cover on the right side of defence and in goal following Brian Jensen's release.

Flitcroft is also aware that upfront we could do with adding a touch more youth and potential given the experience we carry there, just to ensure competition is rife.
