Manager David Flitcroft has felt every emotion over the Easter fixture schedule, having been overwhelmed and emotion on Friday, Monday evening left him feeling deflated as we failed to back up the four nil victory over Plymouth, as we went one nil down to York.
Despite ending the game with ten men, Bury had the greater chances and possession on the day, and the only thing missing really was a goal.
Speaking to the press following the match, the manager had to admit that our brief dalliance with the play offs was over following that result, but he was bouyed in a sense because he knows he couldn't have asked for more from the team in the game again, as scoring was our Achilles heel, and he knows how they have turned things around as the season has drawn on, so he doesn't want to let one match sour all the progress and good we have seen of late.
'I've said to the players that they've given everything. We're tried everything as a group to win this match. I know how important it was for us to keep the season alive, and I'm deflated because we did more than enough to win the game.'
The very least we deserved was a point from the match in all fairness, and Flitcroft knows that we dominated the match when we had eleven men on the pitch and they got a lucky, scruffy goal, and he points to the fact that goalkeeper Brian Jensen did only have one save to make all game.
'I'm not deluded, I know what I've seen, but we've been beaten and it's deflating. The lads they gave each other everything and we can't give anymore than what I've just witnessed.'
He goes on to say that recently we have had good momentum and he was hoping we could keep something alive to fight for until the final day, and that was a the play off hope, but given all the upheaval this season, the fact we are or were in that position to begin with, is a huge positive and is what should be remembered.
