Manager David Flitcroft has conceded that Bury got a slice of luck in the victory over Bristol Rovers last night.
Speaking to the press following the game the gaffer was very quick to point out that unlike the victory over Northampton last weekend, this was not a game we actually deserved to take three points from, so on that score we were lucky but we've deserved some over the course of the season and not got it, so he's not going to overly argue on that score.
Loanee Hallum Hope scored for the second consecutive match to give us the lead, but they equalised on the stroke of half time and it did look like the game was destined to end in a draw before substitute Tom Soares hit the winner with what was his first touch.
'We maybe didn't deserve to win, they'll consider themselves unfortunate, but during my time here I believe we deserve to be 12th. The first 35 minutes I was pleased with how we went about our business, we pressed them well and created some good chances. But they dominated the last ten before half time and for 20 minutes in the second half we couldn't get near them.'
Flitcroft says that having then switched things around to try and get us a foot hold in the game again he was pleased to see it work and he felt we ended the final 20 minutes right and with some credit again.
Even when under the cosh though he had praise for how the team stood up and battled because ultimately it was staying tight and working hard during the opening stages of the second half that has got us the victory because we didn't go behind and it gave us the basis on which to go and get the winner.
He also had immense credit for Rovers saying that 'that's as good a team as we've played here...they played with purpose and mixed things up' and thankfully for us he feels we coped well with what they did throw at us anyway.
'To get the victory is incredibly pleasing because the work we've had to put in to keep this team in this league has been relentless.'
It certainly looks like it's paid off as well as we sit in 12th place and with points still to play for, we could finish higher as well and really give ourselves a boost going into 2014-15.
