Vital Point Against Newport - Flitcroft
Manager David Flitcroft has said that the point we gained in midweek over Newport County could be absolutely vital to our survival campaign.
Despite having two fantastic chances to take all three points, skipper Craig Jones missed twice, but that wasn't the focus of the manager at full time because he knows it was a tough match, and ultimately a vital point as they also had chances and we had goalkeeper Brian Jensen to thank for keeping them out.
Speaking to the press following the game, Flitcroft main focus was on seeing us remain four points clear of the dropzone with only seven games remaining now and as long as we stay there, he'll be happy.
'The way we defended against a forceful Newport team was immaculate. It was difficult to play on that pitch and I thought we defended superbly. We must get the balance right. I went with two strikers to try and get the stimulus to grab the first goal. If we had taken one of our early chances I would be calling it a complete performance, but without that goal it's only half a performance.'
One thing that Flitcroft wants the team to start showing is a bit more flexibility as a game goes on, he wants us to adapt better to the situation in the moment and on some scores you could say we did creating opportunities when it was our turn to shine so to speak, but also defending well when it was theirs.
It was another game however where one goal would've made all the difference and I guess if you can't get that decider yourself you make damn sure the opposition don't and four points clear is a game in hand in effect, and that's a valuable point in making sure that stays the same at the moment.
If it does come the end of the season would anyone argue?
