'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Same Old Story For Sedgwick

Following the two one defeat to Plymouth Argyle last weekend, Chris Sedgwick said it was sadly a case of the same old story for Bury as we simply didn't make enough of our chances on the day.

Speaking to the Official Site following the game, Sedgwick pretty bluntly declared '600 miles and nothing to show for it, that pretty much sums it all up' and it does.

And he is right as well, it is a case of being the same old story, but I suppose if there is a positive to it, as he alludes to, then our new gaffer and assistant boss will definitely learn more from games like this in terms of quickly learning, than they would wins which is something David Flitcroft referenced himself the other day.

'It's disappointing, I thought we did enough to get something out of the game. In patches we played some really good stuff and it was enjoyable, but we've been done with the sucker punch again and that's happening a lot. We've got to start learning and soon. The manager has only seen this for a few weeks, but this is a recurring theme.'

Sedgwick goes on to say that we more than created enough chances on the day to at least have taken a point from the match, but we just aren't clinical enough and we aren't keeping it tight enough at the other end so it's 'killing' us. The biggest annoyance is given the chances we had and should've put away, he doesn't think anybody could've argued had we scored three or four times during the match.

But he knows we really need to be better in attack and take the chances we are creating and then defend better as a whole team, because it's not just up to the back line, so there's no finger pointing, everybody is making mistakes and we need to improve as a whole team.

Sedgwick also says that the players have every motivation to improve and improve quickly because everyone knows that Flitcroft wants to make changes in the New Year, and each of them have to prove they are good enough to be in his plans moving forward and that should see a better application over the coming games, so for him he was delighted with his goal and the praise he received from the manager, but it's bittersweet as he adds like most players do that he'd have rather not scored, had we then won the game.
