Jepson Explains Loan Moves

Jepson Explains Loan Moves

Caretaker boss Ronnie Jepson has explained his recent loan moves as Dean Howell joined up.

Speaking to The Bury Times after the changes to the playing squad that saw Aiden Chippendale cancel his contract by mutual consent, Jordan Mustoe return to Wigan, Danny Hylton extend his loan and Dean Howell come in, he explained that he wanted to increase the experience within the squad by leaning on players who knows this league and have been successful at this level previously.

Effectively the men can help the lead boys to improving our league position.

'I just felt we needed more players who were proven. Dean knows all about this division, Danny is the same. He has scored goal at this level and that's what we need at this point. I also felt we needed more men in the team, rather than boys. Dean and Danny are men.'

Jepson says that's not a slur on the youngsters or meant to imply they aren't good enough, because those that are good enough will play under him, but you can have too much exuberance and not enough knowledge, so he wants a better balance in the squad where the older heads can tell the youngsters when to go for it and try something, and then when to play it simple, play it safe and so on.

In many ways it's as much about their rounded development as it is the league position.

Howell will for this moment in time replace Gareth Roberts in the pecking order, and Jepson says he's talked to the player who hasn't had a good time of it this season and he understands, so there's no problem and when he's back to his best, he'll get the chance again.
