Jepson Discusses Port Vale Loss
Bury lost in the first round of the Johnstone's Paint Trophy last night as Port Vale beat us 2-1.
Despite taking the earlier lead, if you can call it that, on 71 minutes, Port Vale hit back with two goals from Tom Pope to dump us out of the Cup but assistant manager Ronnie Jepson said everything you needed to know about the game, was delivered by the fact that their goalkeeper Chris Neal was named Man of the Match following the game.
Speaking to the Official Site he said.
'Keeper Chris Neal was named was named man of the match and that alone summed up the game as Neal pulled off some really stunning saves throughout the game to deny the Shakers.'
He said the players that came into the team more than took their opportunity to impress as he described their performance as excellent, and he's delighted to see the depth the club now has when it comes to the playing staff.
Best of all for Jepson is he believes he and Kevin Blackwell will have taken a lot from the game in terms of assessing players and working out who is ready to do a job in the first team in the league campaign, and who needs a little bit longer to settle in at the club.
The bottom line is though now that Blackwell has options and we have some really good competition for places which over the next few weeks as players settle and adjust properly, we should be a lot stronger for it.
