Soares Had Turned His Phone Off

Kevin Blackwell has said that Tom Soares had turned his phone off and when he made contact he told him to get his backside to the club of the offer would be withdrawn.

Soares signed a two year deal earlier this week and in quotes carried by the Bury Times Blackwell he explains that he gave the 26 year old midfielder an ultimatum, and all credit to him, he reacted.

'He called and I told him to get his backside up to the club by Monday or the offer would be withdrawn. To be fair to him, he did just that.'

Blackwell adds that when they met he asked him who had been advising him and suggested he shoot them after he left his phone off and was uncontactable for that period of time.

'To be honest, I think Tom always wanted to sign, but he had offers from elsewhere and had a lot of people nagging in his ear, like agents. But I felt we offered him a good contract and in the end he was happy to sign.'
